Tooth Extraction Aftercare Instructions: What to do and what not to?

There are times when a person is suffering from severe tooth problems. Some problems can lead to the tooth extraction, and when a person goes through this process, he suffers from the immense amount of pain. The pain and relevant problems can prolong after tooth extraction in case that you are not vigilant with what to do and what to avoid. There are certain tooth extraction aftercare instructions that you need to know about. In this article, I am going to list what to do after tooth extraction and things to avoid after tooth extraction.

➀ Avoid exercise or heavy Weight Lifting

The first and foremost thing that you should do is relax. Ease yourself. Avoid everything that can cause stress and do not get yourself involved in any unnecessary activity. You must take rest for at least 24 hours after the extraction.Take as much as rest you can, because your physical movements may increase the bleeding.

➁ Do not rinse of spit within 24 hours

Then you must avoid rinsing or spitting for next 24 hours. It is due to the fact that if you proceed with these two things, the clotting of blood can be taken away, and this will make your wounds bleed. In case this occurs, follow the instructions that are provided by your dentist. If it continues, do not waste any time in contacting your doctor.

➂ Do not disturb the extraction point

The position from which your tooth is extracted should not be disturbed for some time. It is because when you disturb it, you will go through immense pain. Not only will there be an unbearable pain, but disturbing that site can also cause problems such as bleeding.

➃ No smoking for a week

Avoid all sorts of smoking for one week because if you keep on smoking, you will go through a lot of irritation. Moreover, the healing process will also be slow. Thus, if you wish to recover quickly, you must avoid smoking for a week.

➄ Avoid alcohol for 24 hours

Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours. If you can avoid it for a bit longer, then it would be better. This is because drinking alcohol can delay the process of healing. Moreover, this can also cause infection. Infections can prove to be highly dangerous therefore avoiding alcohol will be a wise decision.

➅ Use painkillers

Use various painkillers to ease yourself and decrease the amount of pain from which you are suffering. The preferred painkillers are ibuprofen, paracetamol, etc.

➆ Follow soft diet

Follow soft diet for an upcoming couple of days. Eating food that is spicy or grainy can cause problems for you. So, try eating food that is soft. For example, you can use mashed potatoes, smoothies, ice-cream, vegetable soups, etc. These will also help in relieving pain.

➇ Warm water

After 24-hours of the surgery clean your mouth and teeth with a warm glass of salt water. Repeat it for several times to decrease the pain.

➈ Cotton gauze

Always changes the cotton gauze pads on time before they become more soaked with blood.
